One of the dystopian films that show the audience about great injustice is “Children of Men,” a 2006 film that describes the horrors faced by humankind when its extinction was deemed inevitable. The movie demonstrated themes of fear, hope, and redemption and illustrated the effects of politicizing the grave need to survive humanity, jeopardizing the well-being of many.
Children of Men reflected the story of a dystopian world where extinction was inevitable because humankind lost its ability to reproduce for eighteen years. Britain, the last functioning nation, closed its borders to maintain safety and order among its citizens. However, many people worldwide tried to illegally migrate to the country in the hopes of a better future. The plot begins when Kee, an illegal immigrant, was discovered to be pregnant by a terrorist group, the first and probably the last person in the world. She was set to leave the country, and one of the government leaders escorted her and fought against evil to ensure her safe exodus (Cuarón).
The film exhibited the flaws of the modern-day society on the nations’ stand on refugees, seeking help from countries that we are blessed that theirs and all of the actions and decisions of the people are principally based on one concept—survival. The refugees became such because their countries have crumbled to destruction due to the lack of peace and order. The increasing number of mortalities without the birth of a single child in almost two decades brought about the lack of trust in humanity and the governments.
