"Of Freaks And Men" Movie review
Rapid industrialization in Europe during the 19th century and the liberation of the serfs in Russia resulted in Russia's social, cultural and economic changes. Filmed in sepia, "Of Freaks And Men" written by Russian director Aleksei Balabanov who was inspired by the period. He used a collection of erotic photographs of young women being whipped and new development during the century to present cultural degeneration (Norris & Torlone 281).
The film is set in the turn of the 19th century, when St. Petersburg was being recreated the present film daguerreotypes where an atmosphere of this period gives the reader the true picture of the changes that occurred (Norris & Torlone 282). Using the old photograph
