The National Geographic Documentary focuses on wild ostriches in the Savannah plains of Africa in Southern Kenya. The documentary indicates how wild ostriches have to be tough right from the beginning to survive against their predators.
As the chicks hatch, their parents have to stay nearby to protect them against predators. The nests are periodically raided by predators like hyenas, baboons, and vultures. Only 15% of the chicks survive for more than a year (Wild Animals Documentary, Min 4:10). Although the hatched eggs attract predators, the chicks have to stay at the nest for a few days. The eggs provide a source of nutritious food during the first few days.
