Despite his humble beginning in the industry, he is now fondly remembered for his great contribution in the film industry. Thomas went to California where a studio was merely a converted grocery store. In spite of this, he wrote, directed and produced his first movie. Six years later, he owned a half-million dollar studio that stood on 43 acres of land (Taves, 43). This is how the studio system was developed. With such a studio, it would be possible to upscale movie production, which is exactly what Thomas had in mind. Harry Braverman came up with the Braverman’s model of labor in monopoly capital giving reference to the experiences he had gained when he was employed. Capitalists are known to want to maximize their profit in any situation. Therefore, the capitalist employers would want to maximize the employees’ powers and time to get the best out of it. Harry Braverman came up with this model where an employer would adopt the monopoly capital model, which is a three-step process (Braverman, 82). The first step is striving control of the variables of employment. The second one is division of labor and it starts with analyzing the labor process and dividing it accordingly. The workers are then assigned specific divisions of the labor where they are most productive. The final step is scientific management which can be explained as the control over the work done through controlling the decisions that are made during work.
