Khan Academy (2011) produced a video called “Scale of the Large.” The video attempts to explain the mathematical concept of scale factors using examples that relate to the actual world. This owes to the reality that the video begins by comparing the average height of a man to the length of a truck. The video argues that it is important for humans to appreciate how small they are because human height is least measurement used to compare it to other objects. This paper reviews the video “Scale of the Large” by discussing the main argument of the video.
To begin with, the video uses an interesting argument to depict some objects as small in size and other objects as extraordinarily large. This owes to the reality that from comparing the average human height to the length of a track, the narrator proceeds to compare the track to a building then the building to a bridge. The bridge is then compared to a section of a city, which is then compared to a section of a continent. It is notable that each step of comparison increases the by a scale of 10. The comparison continues on the same scale until the narrator compares the section of the continent to the diameter of the earth and Jupiter.
However, it is interesting how the sequence changes from Jupiter to the sun, which is compared to the distance from sun to earth, the distance from the sun to the first star and the diameter of the galaxy. It is notable that the narrator uses picture...
