Commentary: Almost Famous is a 2000 comedy-drama film written and directed by Cameron Crowe, telling the coming-of-age story of a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone magazine while covering a fictitious rock band named Stillwater. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself had been a teenage writer for Rolling Stone.(Wikipedia.com)

William struggles to develop his identity by experiencing the conflict of his actual age with versus the role and responsibilities the Rolling Stone job provided him. First, he has developed his cognitive abilities by deciding either write an authentic depiction of the band or writes a self-righteous piece (Sokol, 2009, January 3, p. 142). Secondly, he had to choose between a life of drugs, sex and endless fun with the band or maintaining his innocence. He decides to maintain his innocence by never trying drugs and by meeting his responsibilities of writing a critical and accurate article. He also struggles with his mother’s wishes of avoiding rock music and keeping off drugs that contrasts with his dream of becoming a rock music journalist. Moreover, he struggles to make friends in the bus since all the band members and aide consider him an enemy and struggles with a love for Penny who eventually becomes his closest friend.
