American Factory brings about the concepts of conflict management. To a greater extent, it identifies the possibilities that would cause conflict, cultural integration among other conflict management components.
What Are the Sources of Conflict in The Situation?
In the movie, conflict is caused by cultural differences between the Chinese management and the Americans providing labor. In my opinion, the interpersonal factors as a cause off conflict comes into play greatly. Precisely, communication and behavior differences dictates the conflicts witnessed in the movie to a greater extent. Funyao being originally from China, their practices and mode of operation is aligned to the Chinese values and customs. The acquisition of the former General motors poses a challenge in the management practice, especially given the cultural differences with their new American labor. The movie shows the management of the company complaining that the American laborers are lazy and their bodies too big for the hi-vis tabards.
Moreover, interpersonal factors as a cause if conflict comes with structural differences like power imbalance. In the recent years, China and the United States have had supremacy battles. These wars have seen the two countries compete in almost everything. The movie comes out at a time when President Tramp's administration has had issues with China. In fact, Cao says that it is not important how much money they earn from their operations, but rather how Americans view China and its people.
