The Host Movie Reflection
The Host lies in the category of horror movies. Therefore, this reflection will focus on how the director effectively used visual design to depict the movie’s genre. It will also analyze the creative choices that were applied to enhance the movie genre and incorporate drama and sci-fi action. Finally, the essay will discuss the impression created by the movie about Korean society.
Bong Joon-ho uses visual design to set the various themes depicted in the movie. The main visual design is the monster that kidnaps Hyun-seo. The monster sets the plot of the movies because most parts focus on the rescue mission. The visual design has been created appealingly to capture the viewers’ attention. The horror aspect is depicted in many scenes, especially when the monster attacks people to feed on them. Sci-fi action is also depicted in the movie in the scene where the government conducts a chemical attack on the Han river. The interlock between the horrific and sci-fi scenes is what makes the movies interesting. The action genre of movies is also presented through violence. The genres presented help in creating the different themes depicted in the movie. For instance, the monster presents both the theme of fear and courage (Lee, 2018). These themes propel the narration and create suspense that keeps the viewers interested in watching the entire film.

The last born is addicted to gambling and doesn’t help with important issues in the family. The daughter is presented as a medalist who is always guided by the urge to meet life goals. The choice of characters indicates how women can be of great help in society despite the common misconception that their role is to respect men. It is expected that the men in the movie will be focused on achieving greatness in life. However, the director presents a different idea where a woman is considered superior in achieving life goals. The movie is also a depiction of the current society where women are no longer child-bearing objects but have careers to focus on. The actions taken to search for the daughter following her kidnapping by the monster indicate how imp...
