Simple random sampling was used to ensure that every obese patient who can develop diabetes has an equal chance of being part of the research (Flick, 2018). Selecting obese patients at random in the five hospitals ensured that the study has a balanced subset that has excellent potential in representing many patients in the category without any bias. Also, random sampling creates room for error, which is characterized by a plus and minus variance. Besides ease of use, with a simple random sample, there will be no need to divide the study population into sub-groups or take any extraordinary measures before recruiting members for the study (Mkandawire, 2019). However, it will be essential to note that a sampling error will occur if the sample does not end up correctly, reflecting the population of obese patients that are likely to develop diabetes.
After random sampling, the patients will be requested to fill in questionnaires that act as consent forms before the interview is done (Mkandawire, 2019). In most cases, the written interviews will be conducted face to face. Since the research will deal with a large study sample size, questionnaires will be an efficient way of obtaining a lot of information quickly without using too many resources. According to Mkandawire (2019), since it will be essential to collect information such as demographics, gender, age, marital status, and questionnaires, questionnaires will be relatively quick. Besides, questionnaires will be an easy way of gauging the intentions and attitudes of the study population. The questionnaires will comprise of both closed and open-ended questions. The closed questions will be structured so that it only allows responses that match with pre-decided classes. On the other hand, open-ended questions will give the selected patients a chance to express their opinions about the research in their way.
Following Fick's (2018) elaborations, the five selected hospitals' data, for five hundred patients, will be taken in two phases by qualified medical practitioners. The doctors will take the blood sugar levels of the patients chosen as follows; in the first six months of the exercise, the blood sugar level will become measured and recorded weekly. During the next four years, the tests will get performed every week. The last phase will be between 4.5-5 years, where the blood sugar level test will be conducted weekly.
Variables and Measurement
