1 Is the international political economy (IPE) more or less globalized today than in 2000? What three pieces of "evidence" can you point to in supporting your arguments?
By the year 2000, countries had still not let themselves experience the full impact of globalization. In Africa, for example, countries like Kenya were still fighting to streamline their democracy. In Asia, countries still feared the influence of the US and thus treaded carefully whenever it came to matters globalization. For a long time, economics and politics were viewed as fields that are independent of each other. However, as time has progressed, it has become apparent that politics and economics cannot be separated. It is, therefore, accurate to say that IPE has indeed been more globalized today than in 2000. Currently, policies made in a single country seem to have far much effect on the economy of another country regardless of whether both countries are heavily or slightly linked.
* One good piece of evidence involves China’s rise to prominence in the world. Initially, China had opted for a quiet economy that was unconcerned by the proceedings outside its borders. However, as time progressed, politics in the country took a gradual spiral and so did the economy of the country. However, after the 2000, China has become more aggressive and the government seems to be making its policies flexible which in turn makes it easier for the local organizations. While the country still has a long way to go to be recognized as a superpower, it is fair to say that it is headed in the right direction. China opened doors for the world and by making such a political decision, the country has ripped in hundred folds.

Russia has been the subject of sanctions from the US and the European Union mainly due to its annexation of Crimea. Politics between the US and Russia has always been bitter and they rarely see eye-to-eye on a majority of issues. While sanctions are always made in the political podium, their effects are often and always economic. By imposing sanctions, the US and the EU wanted to weaken Russia’s economy and thus force it to make the obvious political decision of moving out of Crimea. Sanctions have indeed been used in other countries as well including North Korea and most recently Iran.
* The politics of oil. The economies of several countries rely on oil and thus the worldwide prices often seem to impact the politics of these countries. In the Middle East, for example, a majority of the countries rely on oil. According to Christopher et.al. (2017), “oil accounts for 80% of total exports in half of the oil-exporting economies.” Regardless of the above, these countries often find themselves in a myriad of domestic policies and foreign policies that seem to dictate terms for them. Christopher et.al. (2017), stated that Saudi Arabia’s “economic, domestic, and foreign policies are all intimately connected with petroleum.” As a result of the above, almost all international policies related to oil, ofte...
