Research Methods definitions
My own definition of operations management is that it is the administration of business practices in creating the optimum level of effectiveness in a company. Operations management, in essence, entails converting both labor and raw materials into services and goods as professionally as possible in order to maximize the organization’s profit. Operations management is concerned with the management and design of services, products, supply chains and products. It basically takes into account the acquisition, development and usage of resources that organizations require in order to provide the services and goods wanted by their customers.
From my search in the articles, I found three definitions of Research Methods. The first definition: Research Methods essentially refer to the specific strategies that researchers utilize in collecting the evidence essential to build and test theories (Frey et al., 2009). The author adds that the research methods entail a number of strategies such as exploratory research, constructive research and empirical research employed by researchers to gather the crucial evidence for building and testing theories. I found this first definition of Research Methods more relevant for me. It impacts on my professional life in sense that when I need to conduct research, I will apply exploratory research in identifying and defining a particular question or problem. I would apply constructive research to test theories and to suggest solutions to a given question/problem, and I will use empirical research to test the feasibility of a solution with the use of experiential evidence.
