Critical Threats to the Global Environment

Essay Instructions:

Step 1
Select two threats. Listed below are eight issues that the UN feels pose the most significant threats to global security. Some of these apply to the Earth’s 7.7 billion people, while others are limited primarily to developing countries. Regardless of where these threats are concentrated, your job as a consultant is to identify two of them that you consider the most critical to the globe’s population.
Issue Options
The use of fossil fuels as an energy source.
Globalization.
Insufficient educational opportunities in developing countries.
A lack of access to technology.
Civil war (NOT the U.S. Civil War).
The rise in oceans’ levels.
Covid-19 and the global pandemic.
The dangers of poor countries remaining poor.
Step 2
Write a minimum of an 5-6-page persuasive paper about your two threats.
Write an introduction paragraph of at least one-half page in length identifying the two threats you have selected and the purpose of the paper. Then, for the two threats you chose:
Identify the factors that make it such a serious risk to the global environment that you would choose to present it to the UN.
Analyze the role that humans have played in aggravating this threat to the Earth’s environment.
Suggest initiatives that the global community can take to mitigate the worst effects of this environmental threat.
Write a conclusion paragraph of at least one page in length that summarizes your impressions of these risks for global stability.

Critical Threats to The Global Environment
The world is changing as the years go by. Things are advancing rapidly, some good while others are a threat if not controlled. According to Nordhaus (2019), thanks to technological advancement, people worldwide can interact and do business without physical contact. You only need to market your goods online, and the buyer will access, buy and pay online then the goods are shipped to their destination. However, the world is fighting many threats that endanger the population by making the world unbearable as time progresses. If these threats are not addressed from a different angle, we shall have a big problem in years to come. The problems are still being experienced now, though in small magnitudes. For instance, we are experiencing drought in different parts of the world due to a lack of rain to grow food. That means the world climate has changed over the years due to human activities that have made rain disappear. Some activities that have affected the world climate include deforestation, where people have embarked on cutting down trees without planting more (Nordhaus, 2019). Due to the increasing population, people are clearing trees to build homes but forgetting that they are exposing the earth once they cut the trees. Trees are responsible for trapping gases emitted by factories to the environment. However, if the gases are underutilized, they destroy the ozone layer and cause global warming. Lack of rain has led to the drying of rivers and lakes hence no food to eat.
People are dying of hunger. The UN highlights various world threats that are critical to the world population. According to Siddik et al. (2021), some countries are poor than others due to the exploitation by the rich and colonization by the superpowers. They live on donations and have no access to basic needs. Other areas experience civil wars, leading to numerous innocent deaths. These wars threaten the world's stability as people suffer from all angles. According to the threats provided by the UN that significantly affect global security, the use of fossil fuels as an energy source and globalization are the major threats in the world today. Fossil fuels have been a major trigger of global warming due to the emissions of harmful gases to the atmosphere during combustion. Globalization has also brought several challenges, including the dumping of substandard goods and loss of cultural identity, a major threat to world security, as the paper will discuss.
The world relies mostly on fossil fuels as a source of energy. Fossil fuels are the major components used in different areas, including transport and factories, to ensure things are running smoothly. However, fossil fuels are a danger to the environment, and their continuous usage adds problems to the environment (Martins et al., 2019). Problems such as air pollution, climate change, solid waste disposal, water pollution, and thermal pollution are common issues the world faces today. When burning fossil fuels, greenhouse gases are produced in the process, which is responsible for destroying the ozone layer. Many common water pollutions experienced are...
