Introduction:
This paper focuses on three distinct Bible Verses as a written record of the account of Jesus’ trial in Court and before the Pharisees, particularly the verses Matthew (26:57–68), Mark (14:53–65) and Luke (22:63–71). The life of Jesus is a story that actually existed and happened in real life decades ago. His supremacy has been taken into account where evidentiary proof, eyewitnesses and testimonies are all available for consumption to prove that Jesus is indeed both God and man, that He came to save the world from our sins. In the subsections below, the Bible Verses given in this assignment will be compared, deciphered and reviewed for their differences and importance.
Similarities and Differences of the Three Bible Verses: Matthew (26:57–68), Mark (14:53–65) and Luke (22:63–71)
The Chapters of the Bible Matthew, Mark and Luke shows the readers varying aspects of the false trial thrown against Jesus, the eyewitness accounts, the appearance of the High Priest and how Jesus responded to all the accusations. Luke went straight into discussing the conversation between Caiaphas and Jesus as to the question of whether the latter is indeed God’s Son. Jesus opted to be silent knowing that whatever He tells them will be held against him. Jesus was on trial in these various chapters for the statements He has spoken with the antagonists trying to look for false witnesses that would twist Jesus’ claims and make him lose his credibility to the people. It must be taken into account that the procedures of investigation were all illegal since it was done basically in the wee hours of the morning which is considered as an illegal trial to the contemporary laws. All three accounts differ only in minute scenes or in terms of the words spoken but generally, all three Biblical Chapters are one and the same with what truly happened in the past, to Jesus Christ. It could also be a hypotheses that what is missing in one verse could be filled in by the other verses. There are three writers and authors who served as witnesses of the fateful and tragic event. Jesus’ admission that He is the Christ and the Son of the Living God was the center of this unfair and inhumane trial. His admission led to His arrest and execution. He was tested for the truth but mostly, the corrupt leaders just wanted Him out of the picture and to silence the truth. They would not believe that there is a Messiah such as Jesus who would be leading the world hence they subjected him to prosecution before the Roman Court and decided on his execution. In Matthew 26:65, Caiaphas rents his garment which is a violation of the rules as a high priest as an act of arrogance when he heard how Jesus declared that he is the Messiah and the Son of the Living God. This act usually signifies frustration and sorrow as seen in the Old Testament where people tore their garments in fasting and in sorrow. However, as to rules on High priests which must be exercised diligently, Leviticus 21:10 stated that a High Priest cannot rend his clothes.
