Aptitude tests are designed to assess individuals’ capabilities to do things or predict the ability of people to learn or follow instructions. In other words, they represent people’s competency in performing various tasks. Some of the different types of aptitude tests are abstract reasoning, cognitive aptitude, and critical thinking tests. In particular, cognitive aptitude tests are done using standardized tests, such as SAT. Aptitude tests measure people’s memory, problem-solving skills, verbal ability, spatial awareness, critical thinking, communication skills, mathematical reasoning, and attention to detail (Rogers et al., 2017). They can measure specific fields of intelligence and highly predictive of a person’s job performance. In aptitude tests, age is not a determiner and they are commonly used for pre-employment testing. For example, one of the aptitude tests is computer programming, which can be used to determine how a candidate can solve various hypothetical issues.
