***UPDATE***Please make sure to visit only online museums. Even if museums are open in your area, please avoid unnecessary risk – there are many wonderful virtual resources! Feel free to use your textbook as a guide as well.
Visit a museum or art gallery online before the end of Week 9. Using the online museum or gallery as a model, then "create your own museum." The museum or gallery should contain art or artifacts from the time period you are studying in this course: From Ancient Times to the 1600s.
For this paper, you will select and curate a minimum of 5–10 works of art by 5–10 different artists to include in your own art museum. Use your textbook and online sources to help you find these works of art. A good resource for this assignment is the Google Arts and Culture website from the Google Cultural Institute. Here you can immerse yourself in cultural experiences across art, history and wonders of the world—from more than a thousand museums across 70 countries. Please select only artifacts from Ancient Times to 1600s. Using artifacts dated beyond 1600s will result in a loss of 25 points per artifact.

Cultural Activity Report
Art has since time immemorial been a significant part of mankind. Over the years, individuals have found various ways of preserving their art including through museums. There are several popular museums in the United States including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art institute of Chicago, The Krannert Art museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of art. I was impressed to discover Krannert Art Museum, which is located at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, Illinois, United States is home to more than 10,000 pieces of art dating back to the fourth century. The essay purposes to highlight several artifacts from the ancient times up to the 1600’s and their cultural values from the Krannert Art Museum.
Seated Buddha with Standing Attendants
The first painting that fascinated me is the Seated Buddha with Standing Attendants. Buddha is the founder of the Buddhism religion. The painting traces its origins to ancient Gandhara (600 BCE-1021 CE). It was an ancient region on the far North-West of the Indian subcontinent. Buddha is depicted sitting on a cushion with two attendants standing by his side. The piece symbolizes knowledge and the two standing attendants depict the mankind’s tireless journey while searching for enlightenment. I was fascinated to note that Gandharan people were a race that immensely valued knowledge and their normal way of life involved a tireless search for knowledge. Objects like these hold immense value to the human race for they give us a glimpse of our forefather’s cultural practices and remind us the values we need to uphold.
Donhuang (Tun-Huang) votive
The painting traces its origins back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The Tang Dynasty was the most prosperous era in the Chinese history. The painting depicts a four-handed deity attended by two servants on either side. It is important to note that the Chinese practiced Taoism during the Tang Dynasty era. This religion is a combination of Buddhism, ancient Chinese religion, martial arts and medical practices. I cho...
