The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is an intriguing novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The narrator is a character called Nick Carraway, who describes his experiences and adventures. The first chapter establishes the setting and context of the novel, and it also introduces the protagonist, Nick. The setting is during the years after the first world war. He describes his current situation, and that he moved from the Midwest to West Egg, located in Ney York, after the war to find work on Wall Street (Fitzgerald, 1991). Nick considers himself to be well off since he is from a wealthy family, and moves to a small house located in a posh neighborhood. His home is smaller in comparison to the large mansions around him, and one of his neighbors is Jay Gatsby. Nick is also invited to have dinner with his cousin, Daisy, who lives with her husband, Tom Buchanan, across the bay from Nick’s house. Tom is also a racist, has a marital affair, and he frequently argues with his wife
