Rewriting Jane Eyre Excerpt

OPTION 1: Describe Jane as she would be if she were more wildly romantic in nature. How would this change the entire story? Your answer should be two paragraphs long.
From my perspective, I view Jane as a reserved and dedicated woman. Her love for Rochester and her rejection of St. John’s proposal for marriage because she does not love him shows that she has strong beliefs in love and has a specific vision of how the romantic aspect of her life should be. However, her actions following the circumstances she encountered with Rochester after having found out that he is still married and is keeping his wife showed that while she has strong feelings for Rochester, her fortitude and beliefs are what drives her (Bronte, 1999). This also shows self-constraint as she elected to do the right thing almost every time. However, if it were a different story where Jane was more wildly romantic in nature, I believe that the story would change drastically. For one, Jane’s values would be entirely different and her behaviors, choices, and actions will reflect that. If she were more wildly romantic in nature, she could have possibly turned a blind eye to the fact that Bertha was still alive and technically living with her husband and the man Jane loves, Mr. Rochester.
In this case, she would have continued her affair with Mr. Rochester and it would have led to disastrous events that follow, since Bertha was not in her right mind and because she is still married to Mr. Rochester. However, even if Jane didn’t continue her affair with Mr. Rochester, as the story goes, she would still end up in Moor house with the Riverses and would be in close contact with St. John. Since he has asked for her hand in marriage and because she nearly agreed, it is not inconceivable to surmise that if Jane was more wildly romantic in nature, she could have ended up marrying St. John all the same, even if she still harbored feelings for Mr. Rochester. A more wildly romantic side to Jane could have caused her to pursue love at any cost to people other than herself.

As it was, after the parents of the young orphan Jane Eyre died, she lived with her wealthy, but cruel Aunt Reed and her children and their servants. Jane lived in a big house where she was being kept prisoner. After being sent away to Lowood School, she felt a brief sense of freedom which was then followed by a rude awakening that her situation did not change at all, or at least, not significantly. Mr. Brocklehurst and Miss Scatcherd represented the things she found unpleasant—and she was forced to interact with them because they were part of the school. After Jane’s newfound friend, Helen Burns dies of consumption, Jane still stayed at Lowood School and eventually became a teacher there for two years. After having had enough and wanting more, she sought a governess position and finally ended up being hired by Mrs. Fairfax to teach a young girl, Adele, at a place called Deffry Vale Manor.
