Kiritsubo
The author describes their story in clears and precise manner. The author uses Kiritsubo an image to describe how women were being treated in that society. I think this element of writing enables me to understand the story better. It also elaborates the relationship between Kiritsubo and the other characters. Kiritsubo finds herself in a society where those in power do not value women a lot. She is recognized after giving birth to a prince. Such is an indication of the effort women have to put for them to be recognized in society. The passage creates a culture where a man is more valued in society than a woman. The leaders in the story are all male, and the women are considered as objects of giving birth. After giving birth to a prince, Kiritsubo enjoys an imperial recognition.

The men in Genji’s story describe an ideal woman as one with high intellectual capabilities. They consider such women to be trustworthy, unlike those with low intellectual capabilities. The men point out that women with low intellectual capabilities are untrustworthy and jealous, hence, not their ideal woman. An intellectual woman is considered attractive in the Heina aristocratic community. The men believe that such women are able to make a sound decision and are not characterized by jealousy. An example is the professor’s brainy daughter. Her intellectual ability is the most attractive trait about her. Shinning Genji seems to be an individual who likes making their own decisions.
