Public Curfews Are a Good Idea
A public curfew is a limit that restricts individuals to avoid specific places at specific times. They can limit juveniles from being in public places and designated areas without adult supervision. As is an established habit in many places, these rules require people to remain indoors. Curfew rules are used to address specific social, economic, and political issues affecting the public. Still, some people feel they are too restrictive, and they open the floodgates for violation of constitutionally provided entitlements.
In the article, "Public Curfews are a Good Idea," curfews rules are designed to keep teenagers and children safe from social vices (Balik, n.d). A good example is keeping children from the streets at night since these are the times they commit most offenses. Texas City government curfews of 1991 are a classic example of such application. Until a person attains the majority age, the law in most jurisdictions presumes that one is incapable of making a rational decision in certain circumstances. Likewise, unless it can be demonstrated in a court of law that such a person was duly in the comprehension of the nature of their actions, the law is much likely not to hold them accountable for their decisions. In light of this rationale, curfew rules are designed to assist in keeping children out of certain places that are potentially risky. Such rules help to protect kids from bad influence, bad company, and the risk of moral degradation
Public curfews can also help in containing the progression of disease infections. The Covid-19 pandemic has offered an opportunity for demonstrating the effectiveness of public curfews in relation to disease prevention. Like in the past, when it was fundamentally necessary to contain tuberculosis, public curfews have proven that they can play a great role in regulating the spread of highly contagious airborne diseases such as covid-19 (Studdert & Hall, 2020). These rules worked well to prevent overcrowding and to maintain social distancing rules.
