Student life at the university and college level can get really hectic and stressful. For a student who is trying to efficiently balance and structure their time between heavy workloads, class time, clubs and societies, sufficient rest and a thriving social life, it is no wonder that little thought is given to staying fit or eating healthy. Most students dismiss the importance of a healthy body and instead of carving out time to keep it fit, they push it to its extremes to their own detriment. This essay will examine steps which students can take to maintain their physical health while in university.
The first and most obvious action a student can take is to acquire a gym membership. Gyms are one of the amenities that educational institutions offer to students and faculty. Students should find out what their student membership affords them in terms of gym membership fees as gym services may be free to students but paid for outsiders. If gym services are not covered and a student has to pay they must rework their budget and sacrifice a portion of it to cover membership fees. Once a gym membership has been obtained they should research what activities are offered in a gym and select an appropriate activity for themselves. For instance, they can undertake weight training where they lift discrete amounts of weighted bars and dumbbells in what is known as strength training, they can perform cardio workouts which are exercises that raise one’s heart rate and helps burn fat and calories.
