Living with pets improves their owner’s health
A number of phenomena are positively correlated in that the occurrence of one event (the cause) triggers the occurrence of another (the effect). Some of these phenomena are observed in our day to day life. It is noteworthy that in all cause-effect relationships the cause has to precede the effect. Additionally, in all the cause-effect relationships, the effect must occur once the cause has occurred. The effect’s strength is largely dependent on the cause’s strength. For instance, it is widely believed that living with pets improves the owner’s health. This is an example of the cause-effect relationships in whereby living with pets is the "cause" while improving the owner’s health is the "effect." The purpose of this essay is to examine how pets can improve one’s health.

Pets can improve one’s health in various ways. It is widely believed that one can feel better when he/she is around pets. According to the report by WebMD (2016), spending quality time with pets such as cats or dogs can positively impact on one’s health and mood. Pet owners tend to have healthier hearts than people who do not have pets. This is because pet owners tend to walk more than their counterparts without pets and hence reducing the chances of developing heart problems. Pets are also stress soothers because they lower the levels of stress hormones; they reduce blood pressure, and help the body in releasing relaxation hormones (WebMD, 2016). Additionally, pets serve as social magnets in that they help people to connect with each other. Pets also improve one’s mood (Helpguid.org, 2015).
