Name Tutor Course Date Classification of Intelligence Intelligence can be classified into four categories. Apart from the basic types of intelligence perceived by scientists and in learning institutions, there are other categories of intelligence that might have been considered as soft skills, but instead, they too fall under the same category as self-smart and number-smart. Intelligence has been defined as an individual’s ability to understand information, retain it and use the information to manipulate the environment. However, certain individuals apply such traits in activities other than in education and inventions. The four categories include; linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, logical-mathematical, and musical. The paper discusses the different classifications of intelligence and how they relate to one another. Linguistic Intelligence People with this kind of intelligence have the ability to effectively deliver their message through writings or word of mouth. Such individuals are good at conversing with others as well as delivering speeches. People with these skills mainly become public speakers, journalists, novelists, or poets since they effectively convey their thoughts and messages through written language. Throughout history, several famous people have also been known to have expressed linguistic intelligence. These individuals include Robert Frost, J.K. Rowling, and William Shakespeare. Robert Frost’s poem, The Gift Outright, was a good expression of the poet’s linguistic skills. Through the use of imagination and language, J.K Rowling was able to create a story that intrigued millions of readers. Shakespeare on the other hand is considered the greatest playwright in history due to the fascinating plays, which can be concluded. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence This classification of intelligence refers to individuals who have a passion for physical activities such as dancing and sports. Such people are good at uniting the body and mind to perfect on skills and create a sense of timing. Kinesthetic intelligent people rarely stay idle as they prefer to develop their skills through experimentation and movement, this explains why players continuously practice even without nearing competitions. Pianists are a good example of individuals who possess such skills since they are able to use their fingers, legs and mind harmoniously, and at the same time to produce different melodies. Other examples of people who fall into this category include surgeons, craftsmen, dancers, and athletes.
