Often, American music is equated with inclusivity. It is currently all-encompassing and has shown to be one of the most influential in the music industry globally. This is attributed to many factors like the rise in powerful record companies, exceptional orchestras, radio stations, and television channels. However, it became well-known due to American music's diversity, which is primarily influenced by culture and ethnicity.
American music expresses cultural identity and issues in ethnicity. One genre of music is rock and roll, which originated during the period of slavery. The origins are mostly attributed to the African and Caribbean slaves' songs, which have fast or slow tempo and intense lyrics, reflecting their journey. Their music eventually blended with the Southern Gospel genre; hence, the birth of rock and roll. The slaves had songs that tackled their lives and experiences as “possessions” of the Americans.
