Sometimes I reflect on issues that have been affecting Americans on their daily lives and wonder where they came from, particularly since they tend to divide people based on their origin. Have you ever thought about how racism started? I was surprised to know that anthropologists might have contributed to that problem. Claudia Roth Pierpont’s “Annals of Cultures: The Measure of America” portrays that some anthropologists measured skulls’ sizes, which they obtained from a thriving graveyard market (Pierpont, 2004). Although I understand that anthropology deals with the study of cultures and societies, I do not know the reason why skulls were classified as belonging to Negroes or Native Americans.

I wish the world would have leaders such as Abraham Lincoln. These individuals were focused on uniting people regardless of their cultural, religious, and racial differences. The author makes it clear that the implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation declared that all enslaved people should be set free. In my opinion, the United States of America (USA) was reborn, where everyone gained a sense of belongingness....
