Introduction
It does not come as a big surprise today, that the internet have taken over many field of practices. Whether it be medicine, engineering, journalism, etc. the ever increasing interconnectedness of every individuals, groups, governments, and sources of information are affecting everything profoundly. This is also particularly true of Legal practice. The internet – search engines and social media – have provided both positive and negative effects in the legal field and its ways of trade. In this paper, both sides of the internet and its effects in the legal practice would be discussed.
The Future of Law Practice
Perhaps we can argue that we are already in the near future of the Law practice. Before the advent of the internet, pertinent information and legal trade should be dealt through personal research and interaction, respectively. During these times, lawyers (of their associates) had to go to libraries to do their research and meet with their clients personally. Today, it seems that the need for this more ‘intimate’ interaction with both information and clients are not anymore needed. The other benefits of utilizing the internet for legal practice include; (1) ease in finding clients, (2) lowering costs, and (3) increasing accessibility for both the client and the provider/lawyer. However, the author believes that legal practitioners must be cautioned with these changes. The increasing accessibility of resources and increasing comfortability of practicing legal services does not come without any consequences. Some of the consequences include (1) “risks of legal issues and malpracticesâ€Β, (2) “fraud, (3) lack of accountability, and (4) possibilities of improper execution of servicesâ€Β.
