1 Why do religions persist and grow in this era, despite that fact that the civilizations that they are associated with either collapse or diminish?
The universal religions like Buddhism and Christianity appeal to many people through focus on a universalizing message (Pollard, 2015). Even as there are diverse people they can still profess the same religion, as there is a sense of community in religion (Pollard, 2015). The adaptability of the universalizing religions allows adheres to profess their beliefs despite differences (Pollard, 2015). At the same time, missionaries proselytize to potential believers, and many find meaning in religions. At the same time, there is emphasis on the universal rules and principles, which means people, know what to expect and influences their conduct. Just like here was exchange of information and culture during the Silk Road, there is also spread of ideas and religious beliefs when there is contact among diverse people.
2 If you could go back to this era to speak to one of the missionaries or priests belonging to one of the religions of this era, what question would you ask him or her? What would be their response to your question?
I would speak to one of the Catholic Christian priests on their perspective of universalizing Catholicism when few people outside the Roman Empire could write and speak Latin.
