WORKPLACE SAFETY
Workplace safety denotes the working environment of an organization. Workplace safety considers all the aspects that influence the safety, health and the welfare of employees. The role of women was to take care of the family. Few women could work in companies and other fields. However, with civilization, women started to enter the workforce and these changes were not well welcomed. The safety of women in the workplace was not guaranteed. Poor and dangerous working conditions were a daily fact of life for thousands of women workers globally. Women were harassed and were also involved in gender-based violence. For example, some women workers like migrant workers and domestic workers could not be able to counter such cases because they lacked access to legal protection. This paper will analyze if the workplaces were safe for women.
Since early history and the civilization of mankind, women played the secondary role whereby they were still viewed as less adequate than a man. The role of a woman was to raise children, fulfil other duties at home and be the main nurturer of the family. Men prevented women from pursuing their dreams (Korabik, Rhijn, Ayman, Lero & Hammer, 2017). Additionally, women needed to seek approval from their husbands before they could pursue their career or find a job. According to Sigmund Freud, women were supposed to balance their roles in the family and society. However with civilization, women had to fight for their rights as wives, mothers, and workers. They were allowed to become homemakers and have jobs at the same time. Although much progress had been made, other issues needed to be addressed.
