How the Discovery of America Changed the World. History Essay

Essay Instructions:

Assignment 1.1: A Changing World Thesis and Outline
Due Week 3 and worth 50 points
Create an Outline and include a Thesis statement (A fillable template is included)
“The discovery of America, and that of the passage to the East Indies by the Cape of Good Hope, are the two greatest events recorded in the history of [human] kind”—Adam Smith, in The Wealth of Nations, 1776.
Think about why he and many other notables supported this statement, especially concerning the discovery of America. What was so important about this New World across the Atlantic Ocean from Europe? How did it change globalization in terms of trade, culture, societies, innovations, old and new world exchanges, and in other ways?
Part 1:
1. Write a thesis statement that is one to two (1-2) sentences long in which you:
a. State your thesis on how the discovery of America changed the world. Justify your response.
For the first part of this assignment, you will create a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your main idea to the reader. The body of the essay organizes the material you gather and present in support of your main idea. Keep in mind that a thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. (Note: Please consult the Virtual Writing Center (VWC) for tips on how to construct a proper thesis. Visit the “Developing Your Content” section.)
Part 2:
For the next part of this assignment, you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. This outline will serve as the basis for your Assignment 1.2 Final Draft. (Note: Please consult the Virtual Writing Center (VWC) for this assignment.)
2. Write a one to two (1-2) page outline in which you:
a. Determine three (3) major aspects that demonstrate Old and New World exchanges.
b. List five (5) specific groups that were affected by this event. Provide two (2) examples for each cohort describing how they were affected.
c. List five (5) ways that the creation of new global trade routes affected the occupations and lifestyles of the average working American in the colonies.
I am attaching an outline template in Word format to use to when creating the outline. It contains all of the requirements of the assignment along with a sample cover page and reference page. It is a fillable document so you may arrange it as you choose but do NOT remove the roman numerals and headings. They must be kept in the outline.
Here is the outline template, please download immediately: Assignment 1.1 Template HIS 104.doc
**Please note – For each example you choose you must include an explanatory sentence or two. Do not simply put “Example – corn.” Research the impact the exchange of corn from the Americas to Europe had on the European diet, economy, Etc. This helps me ascertain why you chose that example and which way you are heading in the paper.
I was unsure of what to call the topic of this outline...feel free to adjust as necessary based on the requirements above.

II. Five (5) specific groups that were affected by this event. Provide two (2) examples for each cohort describing how they were affected.
A. Africans.
1. The expanding economies in the English colonists raised the demand for more labor in the industries. This requirement led to the enslavement of Africans for the provision of the required labor.
2. Thus, the adopted populations of Africans were transported to the countries where they worked as slaves with little or no pay.
B. The people of West Africa
1. The growth of the slave trade gave the chiefs in West Africa prominence as they indulged in trade for the European in commodities such as textiles and guns (Hallett, n.d.).
2. The merchants had the opportunity to expand their trade by helping the Europeans acquire what they wanted, including refreshments like alcohol (Hallett, n.d.).
