Batman is morally and ethically right to let the joker live
It could be apparently understandable if Batman could opt to kill the Joker at the first opportunity he gets; this could save many innocent lives at the mercy of the Joker, who is a murderous psychopath. Even so, Batman faces an ethical dilemma since it is seemingly morally incorrect for him to engage in an act of murder per se. despite being an evil person; the Joker is still a human being whose life deserves respect and humane treatment. However, Batman ultimately requires weighing the benefits (saving lives) of killing the Joker, which are evidently of greater significance. Batman says of himself "I don't want to become that which I hate." According to him, letting the Joker live is the ethical way to go. Even though he has good reasons to kill the Joker, Batman finds himself in a position of facing grave ethical consequences for his actions and finds equally good reasons not to kill him based on aspects of character, ideals and motives.
The joker's actions correspond to a dark force that is out to cause harm while having complete disregard for the law and the value of human life. He is determined to cause havoc and prison is not a desired option for dealing with him. However, Batman demonstrates that ending his life is not the desired way to opt for as a matter of ethical concern. Even though, he could successfully make the death to look like an accident and retain his image, the non-lethal superhero is right to stand by principles of character. Still, he understands the danger posed by the joker to many innocent people. As such, Batman depicts the importance of standing by the principles, values and ideals that define who we really are.
