Warren Buffett is an American investor serving as the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Berkshire Hathaway company. Globally, Buffett is known to be among the most wealthy and successful investors. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska region in August 1930. He showed his concern for business and investment while he was still a youth. Buffett studied at the Wharton School in 1947 and later joined the University of Nebraska. He shaped his investment philosophy around the concept of value investing founded by Benjamin Graham at the Columbia school of Business. Buffett majored in economics at the New York Institute of Finance, which later resulted to be of great value to the society. After school, Buffett worked at the Buffett-Falk & Co Ltd as an investment salesman and later as a security analyst at Graham-Newman Corp. He later formed a partnership with Charlie Munger, an American investor who is currently the vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Since 1970, Buffett has remained the chairman and the main shareholder of the Berkshire Hathaway company. He is referred to as the “wizard” in relation to his personal thrift and devotion to value investing regardless of his immense wealth.
Buffett is a suburb manager, known for making shrewd and profitable business decisions. He employs “hands-off” management style that gives his employees complete freedom to make decisions (Berman & Knight, 2010). By doing this, Buffett creates an enabling atmosphere that enables his employees to feel confident and motivated by their extreme autonomy. Buffett believes that people should only invest into the business they understand and run by individuals of their trust (Westbrook, 2014). The Laissez-Faire style is operational if workers are highly skilled and motivated. This indicates a Buffett’s ability to choose capable and motivated managers who can match his expectations. Buffett possesses an absolute human nature as a leader, setting and following the targets he sets for Berkshire Hathaway.
