Statement of Purpose
My significant interest in the field of medicine was facilitated by my need to help people with limited access to proper healthcare. Also, my desire stemmed from my observation of my father in his robust attempts to help people in need, and the diligent work of my uncle in his treatment of pro-bono villagers who could not obtain bona fide caregiving. I was challenged by their numerous accomplishments and I decided to specialize in genetics because ever since I was in high school, I was excellent in science. Upon my quality results in the Iranian National University Entrance Exam, I gained my admission to ensure Genetics- Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Azad University of Tehran. Further, my experience at Irvine Valley College in the United States has been nothing short of transforming, enjoyable, and beneficial to my career path.
My philosophy in life is that if I put my belief in my gifts to achieve something, and then have perseverance and confidence in myself, and I am confident that I will attain it. This conviction has been my drive in my desire to study genetics. The most honoring moments includes when I first worked as a volunteer at the Talaghani Hospital in Tehran under the supervision of Dr. Ebrahim Radinnia, a Gastroenterology Subspecialist. Secondly, I volunteered as a research technician at the Charity Foundation for Special Diseases, where I was involved in a national screening program for Genetic disorders among the Iranian population.
In addition to strengthening my skills, my dedication to the study, my experiences, and other accomplishments in my Bachelor's program yielded my acceptance in a Master's program in Medical Human Genetics at the Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Science. Here, I took various courses to elevate my knowledge in Human Genetics. Some of these courses include Human Genetics, Cytogenetic, Immunity Genetics, Molecular Medicine, Cancer Genetics, Somatic, and Cytoplasm Genetics. Moreover, while still a Master's student at the university, I was working as a bio-tutor for undergraduate students, where I taught them Introductory Biology, Genetics, Cellular Biology, and Molecular Biology. Again, I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Pharmacogenetics and Human Medical Genetics courses. Also, I extended my practical knowledge working as an assistant researcher at Erfan Grand Hospital-IVF Center and a Genetic counselor assistant where I was involved in premarital and prenatal diagnosis of monogenic diseases using targeted mutation analysis and sequencing. Furthermore, I was working as an assistant to my supervisor, Dr. Sayyed Mohammad Hossein Ghaderian, during his consultation sessions in collecting patients' information and relevant family history in their preparation for counseling and medical attention.
In addition to the roles above, I have also been extensively involved in several research projects. In each of the projects, I have had specific responsibilities, which include writing proposals, completing laboratory work, collecting and analyzing data, and writing papers.
