Misdirection can either be cultural or biological. As could be seen in the videos of the Basketball experiment and the Art of Misdirection, misdirection could happen based on how our senses are honed, which implies the idea of cultural relativism. On the one hand, since our senses are predefined to focus on a single stimulus, we tend to lose sight of another stimulus around us (i.e., the taking of the watch in Robbins’ art of Misdirection). On the other hand, since we live in a world that are automated and urbanized, our culture can also shift our attention towards a particular stimulus thereby relegating another (i.e., Cyclists).

Upon asking my family about their perception of the dress, most of them said that the dress is colored black and blue. However, one exception of which was my uncle who said that he sees the dress as white and gold. Although his response was interesting, I am very confident that my answer is correct since the five of us said that it was black and blue. In other words, the collective affirmation of my beliefs is the reason why I am certain that my perception is correct.
