Essay Instructions:

the instruction is in the document,

Refer to

4.1 anthbio.LAB.mckendricksj. Evolutionary Theory and Human Origins. Geographic Typing.

In lab 4.1 we have begun exploring the idea of natural selection by way of extinction, biological variations, and isolation as being a cause of regional variation.  We may have observed in the physical world that humans are in fact variant in that there are unique characteristics.

These characteristics may be a result of the selection process. That is, geographic regions have unique configurations and opportunities. Therefore, who lived there may be affected by conditions for natural selection such as:

●        founding population-closely related and unique DNA within a population

●        biological stress - genetics, climate, illness, competition, and death

●        mutation- adaptation and maladaptations

●        migration and immigration - reproduction and  genetic drift

  1. Review founding populations of humans online of regions such as islands, deserts, forests, continents and find examples of physical variance in the world. List the variant 2 from each; islands, deserts, forests, and continents (8 pts)

  1. In the classroom, work, or neighborhood, observe the members and establish whether variations exist, list 4 variations (4 pts).

  1. From this list of conditions for natural selection, how may each of the four conditions potentially affect the populations in question 1 (4 pts).
