The assassination of Abraham Lincoln brought with it numerous questions that would only be answered by the planners. However, the involvement of each and everyone in conspiracy to kill him is a mystery to many; moreover the participation of Dr. Samuel Mudd who just treated the injured suspects of murder (Summers, 12). In the movie “the conspirator” it revolves on the aspect that only one bullet killed the president but not one man. This paper discusses whether Dr. Samuel A. Mudd was guilty of conspiracy in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The movie is based on the assassination of the president but shift the focus to the seven men and one woman that are arrested in connection this murder (Redford). They are later charged with conspiring to kill the president and other government leaders. The question tries to focus on who should bear the responsibility of the crime committed and what would determine their involvement and their punishment. Mary Surratt is the only female in the conspirators and is arrested for owning the boarding house that the planners use in planning the killing. Surratt hires Fredrick Aiken to defend her and he discovers that the client is used as a bait to get to her son who escaped. There is more that meets the eye in “the conspirator” as the innocent persons are caught up in the killings, arrested and left to proof their innocence. In the real case of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd his involvement is seen only in one instant of treating the John Wilkes Booth and David Herold who turned up at his house with the supplies. This involvement was not linked to the actual killing but more questions would be asked on his knowledge of the plot.
