Racial and Ethnic Issues in SELMA Film 2015
Selma is a 2015 film that was nominated for an academy awards and it analyzes numerous issues pertaining to ethnic and racial factors. It analyzes the complexities associated with the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. The revolutionary movement that was associated with voting rights has been highlighted in the film, with the movement being led by Martin Luther. The film portrays instances where African Americans and other minorities were not allowed to vote before the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 (Chism). The film brings out the issue of perseverance where numerous racial and ethnic aspects are placed into consideration. For instance, David Oyelowo who acts as King depicts the bloody march that started from Selma to Montgomery, where minorities were demanding their rights irrespective of their racial and ethnic background.
