RESPONSE OF "BASIC INCOME AND THE FUTURE OF WORK”
One of the problems in the feminist theory that this reading addresses is basic income and domestic work, domestic work is also referred to as the reproductive of care work. Domestic work entails child- rearing, nursing and caring and some of the activities that are carried at home as well as other activities that are concerned with the well being of individuals living under the same roof. The reading states that domestic work is carried out by sexes that is, male and female by in means proportionally. In rich and poor nations women have a greater share. In the European Union, 80% of women have children at home spend most of their hours doing house work every day compared to 29% of men. These women spend less time at work and more time doing domestic work. Those shows there are a high disparity of gender difference.
Additionally, domestic work is also affected by the basic income. However, basic income does not solve some of these social problems that are related to sexual division of labor. There are sexual; inequalities and gender biased discriminations in the society. Basic income gives women more freedom and women need economic independence whether, married or single. Women are also trapped in poverty within the present day system. Feminization of poverty is greatly mitigated. Therefore basis income is universal and should be paid to both men and women. Basic income helps to change the distribution of domestic work between men and women in some households and women can gain a lot on only in terms of income but in terms of freedom as well.
Some of the everyday social relations problems addressed in this reading include basic income and voluntary work. Human beings term voluntary works using one’s own tome for unpaid services and devoting to help others under the rubric of domestic work. Voluntary work ranges from education, nursing, counseling, assisting in disaster works among others. People fail to engage in voluntary works due to lack of motivations and resources.
