Introduction
The evolution of the human species has placed the ability to work and read in a central position in our lives where for our work, we must continually assimilate increasing amounts of information. This information is then utilized to make decisions. As such, it is important to provide within the home, a space where member of the family can work and read. This is especially essential for families with a large number of individuals. Reading is a solitary endeavor. It requires silence and tranquility where an interruption however minute will rupture ones train of thought. The study room can be such a place within a home or shared spaces in a college or educational institution where one can read and work.
The Study Room
The study room will be situated in an area of the house that is quiet, away from the kitchen and living room. Its design will be similar to that of a private office. The study room will at a minimum have a reading table and a chair. The room can also have a compute, bookshelves, books, lamps, printers among many other items and the room’s design accentuates its functionality. As such, it will likely have toned down colors, to ensure the rooms users are not distracted from their core purpose in the room.
Uses of the Study room
The study room is designed primarily for studying. However, due to its ambience, it can be utilized for work, reading or any activity that does not require untoward physical movement. It can also be referred to as a home office or a home library. The room should thus be designed in a manner that ensures the materials such as books and computers are protected. The bookstands should be away from direct sunlight because sunlight can destroy the books.
Users of the study room
The study room can be utilized by any member of the family. However, this should be limited to only those members who appreciate its use. Babies should not be allowed into the study room because they are unable to control themselves. The baby can start crying thus destroying the calm environment of the study room. This would make it difficult for the room to be used. Pets should not be allowed in the room because the pets can also destroy the materials in the room such as the books and computers.
