Her Underground
The current state of global order has been a culmination of numerous rights movements. These include the racial equality, civil rights, workers, and the women movement. The women movement, also known as the feminist movement, is arguably one of the longest, and still ongoing, struggles. The book Her Underground by Dr. Donna M. Giancola and Undine Celeste Pawlowski offers a factual as well as practical insight into a number of issues, such as eco-feminist principles. I particularly find the book motivational and self explanatory, in the way it depicts real life aspects.
I felt that the book is an eye opener and a rude reminder to the issues that have continuously affected women since the advent of the women suffrages, centuries ago. There is this underlying realization that indeed the society has been traditionally unfair to the female gender. I remember my childhood too, when the society was still trying to come to terms with new rights for women, it seemed like everyone was quite okay with the repressive treatment and stereotyping of women.
It is indeed interesting and shocking as well, to note that some of the women in the society didn't help towards the cause of women movements. They seemed to be resigned to the fact that they were indeed, a ‘lesser' gender compared to men. The book offers a critical perspective on exactly what women experience on day to day dealings within themselves, their families, and the society at large. I find the book quite insightful.
