Looking back at the situation of America a few decades ago, it is not difficult to applaud the federal government for its efforts in ensuring there is equality in the country. There are significant domestic and foreign problems the federal government has made efforts tom solve through the enforcement of the law. If the greatness of a nation is measured by the ability of the government to solve all kinds of problems, then the United States should be congratulated. There is a variety of New Deal legislation that changed the economic conditions of the Americans and the operations of the economy. This paper discusses the implementation of Fair Labor Standards Act and how it has changed the lives of the Americans since its implementation in 1938.
1 Fair Labor Standards Act
Fair Labor Standards Act is a federal law that establishes minimum wage, record keeping, child labor standards, and overtime pay eligibility of full-time and part-time employees in the private states in local, federal, and state governments in the United States of America. This is a law that was enacted in 1938 (Lichtenstein, & Shermer, 2012). This law gives the right to the minimum wage to full-time and overtime employees. Additionally, those employees who work more than 20 hours a week are entitled to have an overtime payment. This law covers all the employees who hold positions ion private companies. Additionally, all the employees who are eligible to this Act are supposed to fill out the Time and Attendance Record so that they can be able to conform to the FLSA standards.
Since the implementation of this Act in 1938, numerous significant changes have been made. This Act is very important because it gives employees some of the guidelines on how they are supposed to deal with powers in an organization. The FLSA protects employees against unfair practices. Through this law, workers can be categorized as exempt or non-exempt. The FLSA law applied to employees who are employed by an employer and are engaged in the production of goods and services for trade. It also covers employees who have hired by an enterprise that is involved in the manufacture of goods and services. However, this law does not protect independent contractors and volunteers.
Under the FLSA employees are classified as exempt and non-exempt. Employees who are Non- exempt are workers who are permitted to collect overtime pay. However, exempt employees are not. The FLSA covers the majority of nonexempt employees. Meanwhile, hourly employees ...
