Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI)-based facial recognition algorithms have created multiple ethical implications. Facial recognition is critical for national security and crime prevention but has led to ethical issues as it erodes privacy, autonomy, and human rights. Data is collected without consulting people, leading to questions of algorithmic bias, privacy invasion, and consent (Almeida et al. p.377). Every ethical framework presents a different angle to the ethical issues at hand, spanning from a utilitarian standpoint, which values consequences, to virtue ethics, which accentuates moral character, and deontological ethics, which focuses on obligations and principles. Technology developers and policymakers need to understand the ethical issues associated with AI-facial recognition as they provide an ethical guide to ethical data collection, which will protect people and enhance national security. I will discuss the three ethical issues related to AI-facial recognition: private issues, algorithm bias, and consent, as well as how utilitarianism, virtue, and deontology provide a better understanding of the problems. 
Privacy Infringement
The widespread use of facial recognition technology is associated with an invasion of privacy. Facial recognition technology is very common in public areas and has the potential to record and inspect people’s facial features without their prior permission (Zhang et al. p. 243). The technology disregards the right to privacy as people are not consulted. The government defends the acts to promote national security, which is paramount compared to individual privacy. Utilitarianism theory supports happiness and satisfaction among people. Therefore, it would be against technology as it denies people autonomy and privacy. The main concerns arise around misuse and unauthorized access to sensitive personal information once the biometric data is gathered without permission. The invasion of personal privacy by facial recognition systems can have strong effects on democratic institutions, individual welfare, and civil rights in a society where digital technology is becoming more popular.Moreover, as poor communities are the ones mainly subject to intrusive surveillance practices, facial recognition technology makes the already existing inequality worse by acting as an instrument of power (Dushi p.6).
