Hyper segregation and the implications of Hurricane Katrina
In the year 2005, when the hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans city and this led to huge physical as well as social destructions. The infrastructures, buildings and human lives were lost. This therefore, affected much the political, social and economical life of the people living in New Orleans. Socially, there were adverse effects which led to segregation of people in regard to race.
The economical set back as the result of the Hurricane Katrina led to rise to varied issues in the city. For example, there was rise in the cases of crime, poverty levels and racial discrimination. The economy of the city relied heavily on transportation, public services and entertainment which were affected and in fact the labor force declined and there was labor force shortage after the Hurricane Katrina. This effect spilled over to the social lifestyle in the city as the residents ended up concentrating together to sustain themselves through these effects of the Hurricane as a group hence adverse effect on the social structure in the city.
