The Black-White Gap
The United States of America has made unceasing efforts to end the Black-White gap particularly in the achievement of secondary and elementary school pupils. Every year when NAEP disputes the national report card, the title page focuses on whether the achievement gap is fluctuating or not (Paul and Richard, 1). Thus, the report concentrates on the educational gap between the White and Black. It also portrays the contextual aspects behind the gap in education success from the twentieth century to the present-day. Besides, accounts for the positive change in the gap before the 1980s, and the stability in the area afterward. Based on the available data the report attempts to give reasons for this trend in academics. Poverty concentration, family dynamics, mobility concerns and ethnic differences are among the possible causes of this social problem. Besides, the report discloses why the problems affect the blacks more, yet they are in the same nation with the whites. Thus, centered on the report the study moves forward, revealing the hitches that have caused the education gap between the Blacks and Whites and centers on how the issue can be solved.
Research has shown that the nuclear family is vanishing in the black community (Paul and Richard, 4). Besides, the problem appears to be concentrated in the poverty area. The percentage of kids in a one-parent family has risen more in the black population compared to the whites. For instance, the rate of out of wedlock childbirths in the blacks aged thirty years and below is seventy-seven percent while that for the white women is thirty-four percent. Perhaps this is the reason why resources available to nurture and support black kids education are lower. Take an example of children with only one parent, for instance, the mother; she would strive to ensure that her children get their basic needs. Undeniably the educational expense will burden her. However, it could be easier for two parents since they can share. Hence, one of the ins and outs, that might be undermining the black academically.
Another element that contributes to these social problems is the fact that majority of black kids stay in an environment that is low in social and fiscal capital.
