Interview with a Police Official: Summary of the Findings

Interview a law enforcement official to find out about their most pressing problems and how the problem is handled. Find out what they suggest regarding crime prevention. Ask for crime statistics in the community, gang activity, robbery, assault, etc. Write a summary of your findings.
Interview Results:
I had spoke with Officer Taylor Chancellor at the Athens Texas police department. The most pressing problem the officer has went through is having to deal with mental health persons that are on drugs. On a day to day basics she has to deal with 1 out of 5 persons with this issue.
How she handled the problem is either the sick person will go to the mental institution or jail. Jail is the most common option because the mental institution is always full. To prevent crime in Athens Texas the officers are always aware of their surroundings and if they see something suspicious they will stop and question the person. The crime statistics in Athens Texas are Murder- 1 this year, Rapes-Does not happen, Robberies- does not happen, Assaults- every day, such as simple verbal assaults when this happens a ticket will be mailed to the person that assaulted the other if a name and address is given. Burglaries- Happens a lot, Thefts- Everyday ongoing problem, most common theft is theft from Walmart. Auto thefts- Everyday, people leave their car unlock and get change and guns stolen from their cars. There is also a device called scramblers that is used and can unlock locked cars randomly. This device is used at Walmart, hospital, and random parking lots of stores in Athens. Arson- has never happened.

Law enforcement officers face lots of problems as they strive to maintain law and order in the society. There are different forms of crime some of which are very difficult to handle even for the most skillfully trained officers because they have to maintain order and at the same time refrain from violating individual constitutional rights. The officers have different ways of preventing the crime or handling them. The statistics also vary for the different crimes, the most common of which include gang activity, robbery, and assault among others. Below is a summary of the findings from my interview with Taylor Chancellor, an officer at the Athens Texas police department regarding their most pressing problems and how the problem is handled.
The Findings
There are various problems faced by the police officials as they go about their duties as was brought out in the interview. The most pressing problem at the Athens Texas police department, however, was noted to be handling the mentally challenged drug abusers.
