In Monica Cantero's article about the film Take my Eyes, she writes about Pillar, who finds herself between two generations. Her mother represents the older age of the generation, while her sister represents the younger version of the generation (Cantero). Various scenarios throughout the story and the film depict how the three individuals interact with one another. The essay will focus on these interactions and whether the author's placement of Pillar between the two generations exists.
The relationship between Pillar and her mom seems to present opposing ideas. Pillar's mother believes that Pillar's husband is always right. When Pillar comes to her for advice, the mother seems to blame Pillar for doing nothing wrong, even if she did not. The relations show the varying beliefs whereby Pillars's mother believes in the Franco Regime. The regime requires women to submit to their husbands and focus on them without participating in other activities, such as going to work. Throughout the film, Pillar realizes the emotional damage that her husband caused her and no longer agrees with her mother's views about marriage (Cantero). Pillar's mother believes that men are superior to women and should be treated as such. She believes that women have only one purpose in life: to serve their husbands. The film shows how the mother's views are not only limited to her own life but also affect Pillar's life.
