The author is trying to show that though the older cohorts are not justified to completely blame millennials for their problems. Partly, millennial problems stem from the actions and decisions of the older generations. Though they agree some of the millennial mannerisms are of their own making, the older generations have also burdened them with more problems such as climatic change and the way they brought them up. Simply, the author is showing that some of the present day issues that will define the millennial generation are inherited from their parents.
Identifying evidence.

The author points out the increased national debt, Medicare and Medicaid expenses, and increased average student debt per person. The climatic change which threatens to destroy and or make the planet inhabitable. The figures of these financial burdens seem to be increasing and lately they have burdened the millennial generation. For example, the Medicare and Medicaid expenses was 10% of the country’s GDP from 6.7 in 1990. It is estimated to reach 14% by 2038 CITATION Fra14 \l 1033 (Bruni, 2014). The average student debt has doubled since 2003 and yet a recent tax plan passed by the republicans further worsens the situation for student borrowers and their families CITATION Jia17 \l 1033 (Tolentino, 2017). It is projected that in 2023 the national debt payment would be 14% of the projected federal spending. Additionally, the issue of climatic change will be left in the hands of the millennials. All of the aforementioned issues that are burdening millennials are not of their own making but stem from policies, decisions, and actions of the older cohorts.
