Essay one is the first step in writing your Final Persuasive Essay.

There is increased interest in reducing and eliminating plastic bag pollution including banning the use of plastic bags in shops. Environmental pollution, environmental degradation and reducing carbon emissions are the most commonly cited reasons for such measures (Stephenson 352). Countries and local authorities have adopted different measures from taxing consumes and business at higher rates to outright banning the plastic bags. However, banning these bags is also an inconvenience to the businesses and consumers, and there is still pollution from other plastic sources. Plastic bags take years to biodegrade, which makes them one of most polluting products as they are used in large scale.
Plastic bag pollution is a concern as it affects the environment, flora and fauna, and this includes marine pollution. Single-use plastic bags are disposed after use and sometimes improperly, which increases the risk of clogging water systems and sewers, which in turn affects the water, soil and air. Some marine animals are entangled in plastic and mistake the plastic for food, and this affects their well-being. It takes a lot of effort to undo the damage caused by plastic bags and some of these bags are hard to recycle. Plastic bag ban and taxes influence their consumers change their behavior and increase bag reuse (Martinho, Balaia and Pires 9). Banning the plastic bags from shops then implies that customers are either provided with reusable bags or come with these bags, where it is likely there is lower risk of pollution because of reuse unlike the single-plastic bags.
