Essay Instructions:

500-word paper. Times New Roman. Size 12 font. Double-spaced.
Read 30 pages from a book that is considered an authoritative, sacred text of another religion. Do not read from the Bible. Examples of what you could choose to read are: The Dhammapada, Upanishads, The Bhagavad-Gita, The Qur’an, The Hadiths, The Talmud, The Book of Mormon, or L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics.
Create a Cover page - List the citation for the book you read (publisher, year, translator if applicable, and the page numbers read). If the book was from the Internet, you should list the website and the page numbers read. If you can't tell the number of pages being read if it is online, copy/paste the material into a word doc. Reformat it to Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing. If it’s 30 pages, you’re good.
Write 3-sentence introduction to the book you chose and why you chose it.
For the rest of the paper, you can pull some quotes from the text that show the major principles or teachings of the religion.
If you want, use some scriptures from the Bible to offer a comparison between the teachings of Christianity and the teachings of the religious text you are reading.
If what you read was a narrative piece from the religion, summarize the narrative and then explain what followers of the religion would understand from the narrative.

The suras touch upon numerous aspects of human existence, including matters of, social organization, doctrine, and finances. The main reason I chose the Quran is its close resemblance to the Bible; a widely known and relatable religious text. I also chose the Quran because most issues concerning how human beings relate to one another are clearly articulated. The Quran also carries lots of originality as it is mainly in Arabic; carefully ensuring the non-dilution of the word. The teachings of the Quran often concentrate on Allah’s design of the institution of life, and how and why Muslims should respect it. The Quran is integral in human guidance and education (Pashib, Khaqani and Bahrainian 137). It also puts emphasis on the fact that Allah should be accorded respect for He is the most authoritative being. The sections below focus mainly on the financial lessons as written in al-Baqarah. The al-Baqarah teaches spending discipline; that spending should be done in Allah’s way. This is integral teaching of the Quran given that spending irresponsibly can land one in financial troubles. In 2:254, Muslims are advised to “Spend from what we have given you, before a Day comes in which there is neithe...
