Introduction
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit as recognized by the Catholic Church and other Christians include wisdom, understanding, Counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and the fear of the Lord (Richert). These gifts serve to perfect and complete all the virtue among those receiving them. As Christians receive the gifts, they respond according to the prompts of the Holy Spirit, just as the manner in which Christ would. In this essay, a discussion of individuals who have shown this infusion of the gifts through their words and actions such as Pope Francis, Albert Einstein, and Confucius will be presented.
The Gift of Piety: Pope Francis
Pope Francis embodies the gift of piety from the Holy Spirit that directs him to show mercy, meekness, patience, and at peace with God in his humble service as a leader of the catholic church and to humanity. Addressing the congregants at Vatican City in May 14, 2016, the Pope remarked that people deserve better love from their fellow humans than do the animals. He made this statement while reflecting and expressing piety how people were so much attached to their pets, but fail to give a hand to their neighbors who are in need (CatholicNewsAgency.com). The Pope has always emphasized in his homilies how piety is a manifestation of God’s mercy through those suffering in the society.
