3. Discuss the role of sacrifice in the myths of Christianity and Judaism. How does it show up in the myths and rituals (ancient or contemporary) Give to examples for each. How do these elements create a connection between Judaism and Christianity?
In Christianity, Christ who died is like a sacrificial lamb to achieve the forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation. A sacrifice is understood as an offering, but sacrifices do not necessarily have to occur with death or destruction. In the new testament, Paul states that sacrifices are a form of sacrifice “therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1-2).
