Groupthink
Groupthink is a psychological scenario that happens when a group f people share a common feature and who, in their spirit of harmony, end up making irrational decisions. There is neither individual creativity nor independent thinking, meaning members avoid raising alternative options, which leads to poor decision making (Janis, 162). Such groups always overlook their ability to make decisions and forget what their opponents are capable of doing; members are closed-minded and have pressure to be uniform, hence avoiding alternative options. An excellent example of groupthink is the ongoing protests in many regions of the United States over the alleged Minneapolis police brutal killing of Floyd. An armature video of two white police officers holding down and choking Floyd while ignoring his, Floyd's, cry. He was complaining that he was running out of breath. That sparked the demonstrations with people all over the world through social media, primarily the black, protesting using the hashtag black lives matter. The black race is showing unity in the protests, while in the real sense, police in black nations in Africa are brutalizing their fellow blacks, yet there are no protests. Their leaders have not even considered having a discussion with Donald Trump’s administration over the same.
Obedience
In human behavior, obedience is giving in to all and following the later instructions and orders from an authority figure. Therefore, it is a form of social influence that can either be moral or immoral, depending on the context (Milgram, 16). Obedience is also tied to cultural believes, with many traditional societies seeing obedience as an essential virtue. For instance, people are supposed to obey God without questions; children are expected to obey their parents, slaves their owners, among others.
